This November, The Horton in Epsom opens its doors to a unique celebration of colour, creativity, and community. The Canvas Club: From Ten Brushes to Your Eyes brings together ten Surrey artists in a free exhibition running from 5–15 November 2025.

The Horton isn't just a venue. It's a piece of living history. Built in 1901 as a Grade II listed convalescent home, the building has been lovingly restored and transformed into one of Surrey's most exciting cultural hubs.

Why This Exhibition Matters

Art has the power to slow us down. To help us see the world, and ourselves, differently. With ten artists showing side by side, The Canvas Club offers a kaleidoscope of perspectives. Expect seascapes, sunsets, abstract textures, and portraits — all offering a moment of connection.

The Horton: A Venue with a Story

Originally built in 1901 as a convalescent home, The Horton is a restored Grade II listed building that has become one of Surrey's leading arts centres. Its vaulted ceilings and historic walls bring depth and atmosphere to every exhibition.

The building's transformation from a place of healing to a centre for creativity feels particularly fitting for The Canvas Club. Art, after all, has always been about restoration — of spirit, of wonder, of connection to something larger than ourselves.

Meet the Artists

The Canvas Club showcases ten voices in Surrey's creative landscape: Melanie Cambridge, Maggie Penton, Simon Robin Stephens, Simon Bailey, David Sprot, Jean Threlkeld, Alan Stoney, Jane V Bailey, Iris Stroud, and Fiona Champion.

What Visitors Can Expect

Visitors can wander the gallery, pause at individual works, and enjoy an intimate, reflective atmosphere. Families, collectors, casual visitors, and mindful explorers will all find something meaningful here.

The exhibition offers a rare opportunity to see how different artists respond to similar themes — light, landscape, human emotion — each bringing their own technique and vision to the canvas. Whether you're drawn to the fluid spontaneity of watercolour or the rich depth of oils, there's a conversation waiting to unfold.
