I'm Simon Robin Stephens, a watercolour artist based in Sutton, South London. My studio overlooks the peaceful streets of Carshalton, where I create therapeutic landscapes that serve as visual sanctuaries for calm and contemplation. Working in traditional transparent watercolour on Arches cold-press paper, I specialise in mindfulness art for therapy rooms and private collections across Sutton, Surrey, and Greater London.
Born and raised in Sutton, I've spent over two decades developing my craft through classes at Sutton College and self-directed watercolour studies. My deep connection to South London's landscapes— from Carshalton Ponds to Grove Park's waterfalls—infuses every painting with local authenticity and emotional resonance. Working in traditional transparent watercolor on Arches cold-press paper, Simon creates luminous landscapes that capture both physical beauty and emotional resonance. His work is characterized by vibrant color palettes, expressive skies, and ethereal atmospheric effects that bring joy and promote calm.
Diagnosed with ADHD in 2024, I openly share: "I don't paint what I see – I paint what I feel. Living with ADHD means my world is often loud, scattered, overwhelming. Painting is how I make sense of it." This neurodivergent perspective has become central to my artistic identity, particularly in my "Sanctuaries of the Mind" collection— therapeutic watercolor art specifically designed for ADHD-friendly spaces where "silence has colour" and "light feels like belonging."

Growing up in Sutton, finding my voice through watercolour, and painting therapeutic landscapes across South London
"I was always inspired, even as a very young child, by my mum's drawing ability. There was something about the way she marked the page – something as simple as charcoal being swiped across paper – that really moved me."
Attended classes at Sutton College on and off over two decades, exploring various creative disciplines before finding his niche in mixed media and watercolor painting. Largely self-taught, he completed numerous watercolor courses to master his craft.
During COVID-19 lockdown, as a carer facing challenging circumstances, painting became Simon's daily refuge. The spontaneity and fluidity of watercolors captivated him, marking the birth of his therapeutic approach where each brushstroke became "a small act of calm – a moment rebuilt in colour, water and light."
In 2024, Simon received an ADHD diagnosis, which provided a new lens to understand his artistic journey. This revelation validated his creative passion and fueled his mission to raise awareness about neurodiversity through his "Sanctuaries of the Mind" collection.
Active member of Carshalton and Wallington Art Group (since 2021), Carshalton Artists (since 2022), Arts Network Sutton, and National Trust. Regularly participates in exhibitions and art fairs across Surrey and South London.
Now shares his knowledge through watercolor workshops for beginners, making the therapeutic benefits of watercolor accessible to newcomers. Each 2.5-hour session teaches step-by-step techniques while emphasizing mindfulness and calm.
